What it is
A companion's account of a mass execution in Numidia, where the condemned were made to kneel in ranks along a riverbed so the blood would run into the water, and Marian's mother kissed his neck afterwards.
Why it lasted
The most physically exact description of a Roman mass execution to survive, and evidence of how quickly the Valerian persecution moved from confiscating property to killing in batches.
