What it is
A system of correspondences between the two testaments yielding three ages of history — of the Father, the Son, and a coming age of the Spirit in which the church will be renewed.
Why it lasted
The most influential prophetic scheme of the Middle Ages, feeding Franciscan radicalism, later revolutionary movements, and much modern philosophy of history.
