What it is
The soul as a woman who falls into prostitution, is passed between robbers, bears illegitimate children, and finally turns and weeps — at which the Father sends her own brother down to her as bridegroom, and the bridal chamber restores her.
Why it lasted
Quotes Homer and the prophets side by side as equally authoritative, and tells the fall and redemption as a single sustained story without any cosmology at all — the most accessible text in the whole library.
