What it is
A code of civil and ecclesiastical law compiled for Armenians living under foreign rulers, so that they might be judged by their own law rather than a stranger's.
Why it lasted
The foundation of Armenian legal tradition, carried by the diaspora as far as Poland and used there into the seventeenth century.
