What it is
Two hundred short sentences on how the law works inside a person, insisting against one party that baptism gives everything and against another that nothing is received without being worked out — grace is complete and hidden, and is uncovered by keeping the commandments.
Why it lasted
The Eastern answer to the question the West was tearing itself apart over in the same years, arrived at independently and framed as neither Augustine nor Pelagius framed it. Stands at the head of the Philokalia.
