What it is
A late and severe argument that a Christian may marry only once, remarriage after a spouse's death being a concession the Spirit has now withdrawn.
Why it lasted
Shows how far Tertullian's Montanist convictions carried him from the church he had defended so brilliantly twenty years earlier.
