What it is
An argument that everyone, including the simplest, can pray by simply attending to God's presence and abandoning themselves to his will.
Why it lasted
Condemned as Quietist and its author imprisoned in the Bastille, it was later treasured by Protestants — Wesley, Fénelon's admirers, and the Quakers.
