What it is
Two chapters of unrelieved threat against the nations — Babylon, Asia, Egypt, Syria — written for Christians under persecution and promising that the sword will come, that mothers will be widowed and their houses given to others, and that the elect are to hold on and not fear.
Why it lasted
The other Christian addition bound around a Jewish apocalypse: printed for centuries as the last two chapters of 2 Esdras, at the far end of the volume from Fifth Ezra. With this entry the catalogue holds all three parts of the composite book the Latin Bible printed as 2 Esdras.
