The Syro-Hexapla

Paul of Tella

What it is

A word-for-word Syriac rendering of the fifth column of Origen's Hexapla, made at Alexandria and keeping the asterisks and obeli that marked where the Greek differed from the Hebrew.

Why it lasted

Origen's Hexapla is lost. This translation, made because it was too unwieldy to copy whole, is the single best witness to what stood in it — a Greek Old Testament recoverable only through a Syriac copy of a column of a lost book.

Where to read it

Public domain and free to read in full, though not held here. The archives below have it.

These open a search on each archive rather than a direct link, which is the honest way to point at an edition nobody here has checked line by line.
