What it is
A word-for-word Syriac rendering of the fifth column of Origen's Hexapla, made at Alexandria and keeping the asterisks and obeli that marked where the Greek differed from the Hebrew.
Why it lasted
Origen's Hexapla is lost. This translation, made because it was too unwieldy to copy whole, is the single best witness to what stood in it — a Greek Old Testament recoverable only through a Syriac copy of a column of a lost book.
