What it is
A short manual of Christian practice for a congregation still finding its footing: the Two Ways of life and death, then plain instructions for baptism, fasting, the eucharistic prayers, and how to tell a true travelling prophet from a freeloader.
Why it lasted
The earliest surviving description of how Christians actually worshipped, written while the apostolic generation was barely gone. Lost for centuries and recovered in 1873, it reset what historians thought the first-century church looked like.
