What it is
A vast refutation of materialism and fatalism, arguing for plastic natures in the created world and quoting so much ancient atheism that some accused him of spreading it.
Why it lasted
The principal work of the Cambridge Platonists, who insisted that reason is the candle of the Lord and that religion must not be at war with it.
