The apostles are carried on clouds from wherever they are preaching to Mary's bedside in Jerusalem. She dies without pain, her soul is received by her Son, and the body is taken up before it can be buried — in some versions after a hostile bystander's hands are severed at the bier.

Written to nuns at Soissons as if by Jerome, and unusually careful: the church may celebrate Mary's passing, but scripture says nothing about a bodily assumption and the apocryphal accounts of it are not to be trusted. What is certain is her glory; the manner of it is not.
