A rule for three enclosed sisters covering prayer, temptation, confession, and daily arrangements — including whether to keep a cat and what to say to visitors at the window.
Why it lasted
The finest early Middle English prose, and the most humane and psychologically observant rule written for women in the Middle Ages.
