What it is
A chronology of the world from creation, dated by astronomy and by the reigns of kings, placing the first day in the evening preceding 23 October 4004 BC.
Why it lasted
The most careful chronological scholarship of its age, later printed in the margins of English Bibles and mistaken for scripture by generations of readers.
