What it is
Bede's earliest book, written in his twenties, dividing Revelation into seven recapitulating sections after Tyconius and firmly against reading it as a calendar. The thousand years are the age of the church, and the numbers are meanings rather than dates.
Why it lasted
The first biblical commentary written in England, and the channel by which Tyconius's anti-millenarian reading reached the whole medieval West. It kept Latin Christendom from date-setting for seven hundred years.
