The First Book of Discipline

John Knox and colleagues

Read elsewhere

What it is

A blueprint for a reformed Scotland: a school in every parish, a college in every burgh, universities reformed, and church lands used for ministry, education, and the poor.

Why it lasted

The most ambitious educational proposal of the Reformation. The nobility kept the church lands, and it was never fully implemented.

Where to read it

Public domain and free to read in full, though not held here. The archives below have it.

These open a search on each archive rather than a direct link, which is the honest way to point at an edition nobody here has checked line by line.
