What it is
A continuation of Jerome's catalogue, adding about a hundred writers of the intervening century with a line or two on each and a verdict. Gennadius is a Gaul of the Lérins school, so Faustus is praised and Augustine handled coolly.
Why it lasted
The only guide to fifth-century Christian literature written from inside it, and the reason we know the titles of dozens of works that no longer exist. Its biases are as useful as its facts.
