The Lay Folks' Catechism

John Thoresby · d. 1373

What it is

An archbishop's instruction, issued in Latin and English, that every priest teach his people the creed, commandments, sacraments, and works of mercy four times a year.

Why it lasted

A landmark of official vernacular religious teaching in England, later expanded by Lollard hands into something rather different.

Where to read it

This work is in the public domain and can be read in full, free, at the archives below. The Library catalogues it; it does not host the text.

These open a search on each archive rather than a direct link, which is the honest way to point at an edition nobody here has checked line by line.
