The Synodical Canons
Mar Aba I · d. 552
What it is
Rulings by a convert from Zoroastrianism who became patriarch, chiefly on marriage law, forbidding the close-kin unions customary in Persian society.
Why it lasted
The foundation of the Church of the East's canon law, and evidence of a Christianity negotiating life inside a hostile empire rather than a friendly one.
Where to read it
This work is in the public domain and can be read in full, free, at the archives below. The Library catalogues it; it does not host the text.
These open a search on each archive rather than a direct link, which is the honest way to point at an edition nobody here has checked line by line.
