What it is

A short Syriac chronicle recording, among other things, a debate held before Mu'awiya between Jacobites and Maronites, the caliph's judgement and the fine imposed on the losers, and his prayer at Golgotha and Gethsemane after taking power at Jerusalem.

Why it lasted

One of the earliest datable Christian accounts of Muslim rule, written by subjects rather than by enemies at a distance, and describing a caliph adjudicating a Christian doctrinal dispute.

Where to read it

Public domain and free to read in full, though not held here. The archives below have it.

These open a search on each archive rather than a direct link, which is the honest way to point at an edition nobody here has checked line by line.
