What it is
A defence of pure love — loving God without regard to one's own salvation — distinguishing legitimate mysticism from the errors condemned in Molinos.
Why it lasted
It cost its author his position and produced a public quarrel with Bossuet; Fénelon submitted to the condemnation from his own pulpit.
