What it is

A Huguenot noblewoman's account, written for her son, of escaping the Saint Bartholomew's Day massacre with a small child and of thirty years of flight and exile.

Why it lasted

One of the few first-hand narratives of the French wars of religion by a woman, and a rare domestic view of a persecuted minority.

Where to read it

Public domain and free to read in full, though not held here. The archives below have it.

These open a search on each archive rather than a direct link, which is the honest way to point at an edition nobody here has checked line by line.
