Marian miracle stories translated from Arabic and greatly expanded with Ethiopian material, read liturgically and illustrated in brilliantly coloured manuscripts.
Why it lasted
The most copied book in Ethiopian Christianity after the scriptures, and the centre of a devotion the emperor made compulsory.
