What it is
Preached in the Great Church with Nestorius sitting in the congregation, and deliberately: a cascade of titles for Mary as Theotokos, the loom on which the robe of union was woven, the bridge from God to men. Nestorius rose and answered it from the same pulpit.
Why it lasted
The sermon that opened the Nestorian controversy in public. Everything from Ephesus to Chalcedon follows from the argument that started in that building on that day.
