What it is
Written for a queen who had asked. Adso assembles a complete biography of a man not yet born — tribe of Dan, born in Babylon, raised by sorcerers, reigning three and a half years from Jerusalem — and then says the end cannot come while the Frankish kings still stand.
Why it lasted
The text that fixed Antichrist as a biography rather than a symbol for the whole Latin Middle Ages, copied and adapted for six hundred years. Its claim that empire holds back the end made eschatology a political argument.
