What it is
Made within a generation of the invention of the Armenian alphabet, and made for that purpose. Begun from Syriac, then revised against Greek manuscripts brought back from Constantinople and Alexandria after Ephesus.
Why it lasted
Called the Queen of Versions for its accuracy, and the foundation of Armenian literature as such — the alphabet was created to carry it. It preserves readings from Greek exemplars older than any that survive.
