What it is
The rules of the Tiberian system for pointing and accenting the Hebrew Bible, set out by the last and greatest of the family that developed it — vowels, cantillation marks, and the fine distinctions that fix how a verse is read aloud and therefore what it means.
Why it lasted
Every printed Hebrew Bible, and so every modern translation from the Hebrew, follows the Ben Asher text. This treatise is the reasoning behind the pointing that Christian and Jewish scholars alike have treated as the text itself for a thousand years.
