What it is
Isidore's treatise on the faith against the Jews rendered into German by a translator who refuses to construe word for word, inventing German vocabulary for Latin theological terms and using a consistent spelling system of his own devising.
Why it lasted
The first serious German prose, and a translation good enough that nothing matched it for two hundred years. Its purpose is the Adoptionist controversy, which is why a Spanish anti-Jewish tract was suddenly worth putting into German.
