Dives and Pauper

What it is

A rich man and a poor man discuss the ten commandments at length, with the poor man arguing that images may teach but must not be worshipped, and that the rich hold their wealth in trust.

Why it lasted

A careful attempt to answer Lollard criticisms from within orthodoxy, and one of the fullest treatments of images and wealth in English.

Where to read it

Public domain and free to read in full, though not held here. The archives below have it.

These open a search on each archive rather than a direct link, which is the honest way to point at an edition nobody here has checked line by line.
