Eighteen books on Latin, written at Constantinople for Greek-speaking officials, quoting several hundred Latin authors — many of whom survive only in these citations.
Why it lasted
Every literate person in the medieval West learned Latin from this book, which means every theologian in this catalogue between Bede and Erasmus was taught to read by Priscian. Over a thousand manuscripts survive.
