What it is
A reworking of Andrew of Caesarea with more history in it — the seven churches given their actual circumstances, the plagues read against the Arab and Bulgar wars the writer had lived through.
Why it lasted
Arethas matters as much for what he owned as what he wrote: the manuscripts he commissioned and annotated are why Plato, Euclid, Marcus Aurelius, and the second-century apologists survive. A bishop's book-buying preserved half of what this catalogue holds from antiquity.
