What it is
Boethius set out to translate all of Aristotle and all of Plato and prove them compatible, and was executed long before finishing. What he completed was the logic: the Categories, On Interpretation, and Porphyry's Isagoge, each with commentary.
Why it lasted
For six hundred years this was the whole of Aristotle in the West. The question Porphyry raises and Boethius answers — whether genera and species exist or are only names — is the problem of universals, and it occupied every medieval philosopher until Aristotle arrived in full.
