The War Scroll

1 For [ … ] the war. The first attack of the Sons of Light shall be launched against the lot of the Sons of Darkness, against the army of Belial: against the band of Edom and Moab and the sons of Ammon,

2 and [ … ] Philistia, and against the bands of the Kittim of Assyria; and with them, as helpers, the violators of the covenant. The sons of Levi and the sons of Judah and the sons of Benjamin, the exiles of the wilderness, shall fight against them

3 in [ … ] against all their bands, when the exiles of the Sons of Light return from the wilderness of the peoples to camp in the wilderness of Jerusalem. And after the war they shall go up from there

4 [ … ] the Kittim in Egypt. And in his time he shall go out with great fury to fight against the kings of the north, and his anger is to destroy and to cut off the horn of

5 [ … ] It is a time of salvation for the people of God, and an age of dominion for all the men of His lot, and everlasting destruction for all the lot of Belial. And there shall be

6 g[reat ]tumult [ … ] among the sons of Japheth. And Assyria shall fall with none to help him; and the dominion of the Kittim shall pass away, so that wickedness is subdued with no remnant; and there shall be no survivor

7 for the son[s] of Darkness. [blank]

8 And [the sons of righ]teousness shall shine ⟨shall be kindled⟩ to all the ends of the world, going on and shining until all the appointed times of darkness are complete. And at the appointed time of God the height of His greatness shall shine for all the ages of

9 e[ternity], for peace and blessing, glory and gladness and length of days for all the Sons of Light. And on the day the Kittim fall there shall be battle, and hard carnage before the God of

10 Israel; for that is a day appointed by Him from of old for a war of annihilation against the Sons of Darkness. On it there shall draw near, for great carnage, the congregation of gods and the assembly of

11 men — the Sons of Light and the lot of darkness — fighting together for the might of God, with the sound of a great multitude and the war-shout of gods and men, for a day of calamity. And it is a time of

12 distress fo[r … ] the people of God's redemption; and among all their distresses none has been like it, hastening on to its completion, for an everlasting redemption. And on the day of their war against the Kittim

13 [ … ] carnage in the battle. In three lots the Sons of Light shall prevail to strike down wickedness, and in three the army of Belial shall gird itself to turn back the lot of

14 [light]; and the fallen ⟨the standards⟩ of the ranks shall make the heart melt, but the might of God strengthens the h[eart of the Sons of Light]. And in the seventh lot the great hand of God subdues

15 [ … ] the angels of His dominion, and to all the men of [ … ] [blank]
