Chapter 17 · 17 of 77
Second Baruch
English, translated by Online Critical Pseudepigrapha — Online Critical Pseudepigrapha, English of the critical text
And the Lord answered and said to me:
With the Most High, much time is not reckoned,
nor a few years.
For what did it profit Adam
that he lived nine hundred and thirty years,
and transgressed what had been commanded?
Therefore, the multitude of time that he lived did not profit him,
but brought death
and cut short the years of those
who were born
from him.
Or what was Moses harmed because he lived only one hundred and twenty years,
and, because he was subject to him who fashioned him, brought
the law to the seed of Jacob,
and lit a lamp for the nation of Israel?
