Second Baruch

English, translated by Online Critical Pseudepigrapha — Online Critical Pseudepigrapha, English of the critical text

And he answered and said to me:

“That time is divided into twelve parts,

and each one of them is reserved for what is appointed for it.

In the first part, the beginning of commotions shall occur.

And in the second part, the slaying of the great.

And in the third part, the fall

of many

by death.

And in the fourth part, the sending of the sword.

And in the fifth part, famine

and the withholding

of rain.

And in the sixth part, earthquakes and terrors.

[...]

And in the eighth part,

a multitude of apparitions

and attacks of demons.”

And in the ninth part, the fall

of fire.

And in the tenth part, rapine and much oppression.

And in the eleventh part, wickedness and licentiousness.

And in the twelfth part, the confusion of the commingling

of all those things together that were previously mentioned.

For these parts

of that

time

are preserved, and they will be

mixed one with another,

and they will serve one another.

For some of them will leave over from their own,

and will take from others, and they will fulfill both their own and those of others,

so that those who are on earth should not understand

in those days that it is the consummation

of

the times.
