Second Baruch

And I answered and said:

‘Am I then to see sorrow in Zion,

that your enemies should come to this place

and defile your sanctuary, and take captive

your heritage,

and rule

over those whom you loved, and go again to the place

of their idols, and boast before them?

And what will you do for your great name?’

And the Lord said to me:

‘My name and my glory

are forever

and ever.

Yet my judgment will maintain its justice in its time.

And you will see with your eyes

that it is not

the enemies

overthrow Zion,

nor burn Jerusalem,

but

the Judge

they serve for a time.

But you, go

and do

everything that I have told you.”

And I went and took Jeremiah, and Adu,

and Seraiah, and Jabesh,

and Gedaliah, and all

the honorable men

of the people.

And I brought them to the valley of the Kidron,

and I told them everything that had been said to me.

And they raised their voices and all wept.

And we sat there and fasted until evening.
