Second Baruch

Now if you prepare your hearts

so that you sow in them the fruits of the Law,

he will shelter you in that time when the Mighty One is about

to shake the whole creation.

For after a little time,

the building of Zion will be shaken so that it may be rebuilt again.

Yet that building will not endure,

but after a time it will again be uprooted,

and it will remain desolate until the time.

And afterwards,

it must

be renewed in glory, and it will be perfected forever.

We ought not, therefore,

to grieve

so much over

the evil

that has now come, as over what is to come.

For beyond both of these tribulations,

great is the struggle

when the Mighty One will renew his creation.

And now, do not approach me for a few days,

and do not seek after me until I come to you.

And it happened that when I had spoken all these words to them,

I, Baruch, went on my way.

And when the people saw that I was going,

they lifted up their voice and wailed, and said:

Where are you going away from us, Baruch,

and leaving us like a father who leaves his children

orphans

and departs from them?
