Second Baruch

Chapter 35 · 35 of 77

Second Baruch

English, translated by Online Critical Pseudepigrapha — Online Critical Pseudepigrapha, English of the critical text

And I, Baruch, went as far as the Holy Place,

and I sat upon

its ruins,

and I wept and said:

“O that my eyes

were

springs, and the pupils of my eyes a fountain of tears!

For how shall I groan over Zion,

and how shall I mourn over Jerusalem?

Because in this place where I am now prostrate,

formerly the high priest offered holy offerings,

and placed in it the smoke of sweet-scented spices.

But now our pride has been turned into dust,

and the desire of our soul into sand.”
